Congratulations to MHA Student Harpinder Paul Johar, who is one of six of Canada’s top emerging health-care professionals awarded the Robert Wood Johnson Award at a special ceremony hosted by the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA).
The award recognizes individual achievement and promising contributions in the field of health services management. Since its inception in 1956, the award has been presented to more than 280 Canadian health-care professionals. The Robert Wood Johnson Award is supported by Johnson & Johnson Medical Companies in partnership with six leading Canadian universities which offer a Masters program in Health Care Administration, including: the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, Université de Montréal, and Dalhousie University.
“The Robert Wood Johnson Award recipients illustrate leadership at its finest. They demonstrate the impact that one person, or one team, can have within their organization and beyond,” said Ray Racette, President and Chief Executive Officer of the CCHL.
Dr. Paul Johar
Dr. Johar lives in Vancouver and currently works as a full-time emergency physician at Burnaby General Hospital within the Fraser Health Authority. He enjoys teaching and is a Clinical Instructor at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Johar is also the Burnaby Emergency Department UBC Site Leader for medical education, and is regularly involved in several quality enhancement initiatives throughout the hospital and lectures on patient satisfaction improvement strategies. He is currently researching emergency physician payment incentives and mechanisms. Dr. Johar plans to continually improve his abilities to work collaboratively with the numerous players that comprise the increasingly complex Canadian healthcare system.
The award ceremony occurred in conjunction with the annual National Health Leadership Conference which is co-hosted by the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA). This year, the Conference was held in Charlottetown, PEI.
