U-Pass exemption information for remote MHA students

Many of you had questions or concerns about qualifying for the exemption.  Details regarding UBC exemptions and subsides are online. Note that the new contract with Translink effective Sep. 1, 2013 no longer qualifies MHA Program students for an exemption based on current criteria. To be considered for an exemption, please follow these steps:

  1. Apply for a U-Pass exemption on the Student Service Centre. The deadline is midnight today, Sep. 17, 2013.
  2. Given the restrictions, you will not qualify even if you live outside Metro Vancouver, unless you can supply another valid transit pass. (Please note I have asked for further clarification on how a monthly transit pass from another region might be used to receive an exemption).
  3. If you have applied, please wait for your application to be processed.
  4. If you are denied the exemption, you can apply for an AMS U-Pass subsidy under the consideration of “exceptional circumstance”. Look for the “How to Apply” link. You will need to include information provided by Enrolment Services after you have applied for the U-Pass exemption.

I will continue to update you if I receive any further information. Unfortunately, the MHA program can’t further negotiate an exemption on the students’ behalf given the recent changes to the exemption criteria.
